Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Why do you need a lawyer?
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is very different from a regular License for several reasons. For purposes of traffic tickets, the outcome of what happens is much more severe. While for a normal driver’s license, for example, a sentence of court supervision on a speeding ticket may have no effect the driver’s license. However, if that driver had a CDL, that supervision would be read as a conviction on their driving record because of the more strict rules governing CDL holders. A conviction could have a serious impact on the CDL status such as a suspension, not to mention potential employment consequences.
An experienced attorney who is knowledgeable in traffic law when the driver has a CDL is crucial. Outcomes on regular moving offenses that a CDL driver is looking for are amended or reduced offenses that will not have an impact on their CDL status. Often times it is difficult or not possible to get these outcomes without an attorney who has the ability to articulate what you are looking for to the prosecutor. An attorney that is not experience or knowledgeable could inadvertently have you agree to a sentence that sounds good, but in reality has dire consequences on your CDL and employment.
